The idea of the TYPE 28 was to create a door with the same superior spreading force as our semi-pelagic door TYPE 26, but with a lower aspect-ratio and more weight in the bottom to make the new door perform more like a regular bottom door.
We have succeeded in positioning the foils, so that the new door 100% match the spreading force/resistance from the well-known TYPE 26, in the same time, the basic construction of the TYPE 28 are lighter, which allows us to fill in a lot more reinforcements to the door and weight into the bottom. This setup, we believe creates the perfect bottom door for all kinds of bottom fisheries.
“These doors practically always hit the surface square, and they haven’t collapsed during a tow, even in a turn. We’re turned as much as 130° with the gear on the bottom and the door spread doesn’t change. Plus we’re seeing 15-20 metres more door spread than we saw with our old doors.”
While the TYPE 26 is close to 1 x 1,8 in aspect ratio, we managed to keep the aspect ratio on the TYPE 28 lower than 1 x 1,6, so it’s a more compact door with lower center of gravity.
